Sugar Creek Resort

Welcome to Sugar Creek Resort!  Beautiful and secluded, we are now the only riding stable and recreational outfitter combination in our area!   Our trails are guided, scenic and private.

One of our most popular rides is the Sunset ride. The only word to describe it is BREATHTAKING!  We leave before sunset and ride down to the river bottom.  Enjoy a steak dinner or hot dog roast with us and then watch the sunset.

Come meet our giant babies! You may see Belgian Draft Horses Bill or Jim on a trail ride.  They are great for youth groups and adult group activities.

We even do hayrides!

Come ride with us and overlook picturesque waterfalls, travel quiet remote trails, and observe the abundant wildlife that fills the landscape along the beautiful Kentucky River .

Ride down to the river and smell the wildflowers.  Enjoy the scenic riverside before you head back to the stable.

All activities require a Visa or Mastercard to hold the reservation or advance payment of 1/2 the cost of activity.  Reservations should be made in advance by phone at (859) 885-9359.  Last minute reservations are accepted on availability basis.

Absolutely no alcohol or illegal drugs before your rides or brought onto the grounds. This is for your safety as well as other guests.  If you are seen with drugs or alcohol or are suspected of being under the influence, you will be asked to leave with no refund.

It is our goal at Sugar Creek Resort to attempt to provide the public with an enjoyable outdoor experience.  In order to achieve this we must impose rules and conditions.  These are for the safety of our clients, staff and animals. While there is no way we can guarantee your safety, we do make an attempt to minimize the possibility of injury or death.

To best accomplish our goal of providing you with the most pleasant outdoor experience we wish to list some of our rules and conditions so you will have a better understanding of when and how we may accommodate your request to go trail riding.

1.    We have the right to refuse the use of horses if there are any reasons we believe may place you or the horses at risk.  Our horses aren’t considered “tools of the trade” to be used and discarded.  They’re part of our extended family and we treat them accordingly.

2.    Anyone over 225 pounds must convince our staff that the muscle to mass ratio is sufficient to provide agility and coordination to insure their safety.

3.    No children under the age of 10 will be allowed to trail ride.  We feel our trails and conditions are too difficult for children under that age limit.  This is for their safety.

4.    To protect our horses we use the “180” rule.  If the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit and the humidity in percentage added together are greater than 180 we do not utilize our horses.  If the index is 140 to 160, we will only do rides in the coolest part of the day.  If below 140, we will trail ride anytime during the day you have a reservation.

5.    There are other rules and conditions you must agree to which are contained in the trail riding waiver accessible through this website.  Please read it carefully so you may determine if you are willing to accept these rules and conditions prior to making a reservation.

A Trail Riding Liability Waiver  or canoe/kayak/outdoor activity Liability Indemnification Form will need to be filled out for all activities at Sugar Creek Resort.  Please be sure and download and sign the appropriate liability waiver in advance especially if parents or guardians will not be present for all participants under 18 years of age.  NO ONE UNDER 18 YEARS OF AGE WILL BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN ANY ACTIVITIES AT SUGAR CREEK RESORT WITHOUT AN APPROPRIATE WAIVER COMPLETED AND SIGNED BY THE PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN.  Remember, ten years, minimum age for trail riding.

Approved headgear is provided.  We suggest you wear long pants and sunscreen.
