Friends,
As you've heard, our dear friend Colleen Gilbert is no longer with us.
I just spoke to Colleen's brother Dick Gilbert and he authorized me to post the following information. On Tuesday, Colleen was seen by neighbors mowing her lawn and packing her car and taking her dog to be boarded while she went to Fort Ticonderoga. On Wednesday the 25th of June, Colleen finished loading her car, locked her trailer and got in the car to leave to meet the group going to Ft. Ti. She was found around noon by a neighbor, sitting in the driver's seat with the door open.
The funeral will be on Wednesday, July 2nd at 10:30 AM at the Greenwell Funeral Home in Martinsville, Illinois. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
Colleen's mother, and brother have asked that in honor of Colleen's love for her reenacting friends, and her love for history, we all attend the funeral in 18th century attire.
At this time, your points of contact are Steve Caudill and myself. My cell phone is 270-996-7099.
As plans are finalized, we'll be posting them here. Please direct other message boards here, or feel free to duplicate this info on other boards.
YHS,
Frank Jarboe (Parson John) |

Thank you, Frank, for posting this and additional info as it becomes available. Would you have any idea what Colleen's favorite charities were, so we could contribute something in her memory ? (Perhaps this will be part of the obitiuary?).
Still in shock at the news... At least it does sound like she passed quickly, hopefully without pain.
The reenacting world will never be the same....

| The question has been asked if she was already deceased when she was found - her brother said that Colleen had already expired. It seems she had just gotten in the car to leave for her trip. |

Pallbearers:
Steve Caudill
2 Nephews, Dick Gilbert's sons
1 Family Friend
***we need 2 more pallbearers from reenactors***
Please email me @ fjarboe@bellsouth.net if you will be able to fill one of these last 2 positions.
Also, Dick tells me they will need a home for "Toes" - Colleen's dog. He's about 8 years old - rescued from the pound, house broken and crate trained - askes to go out to the fenced yard. Very well behaved. Toes looks like a very large Schipperkee and has the definitive Schip personality. Let me know if you're interested - he's being taken care of for the moment.

This is terrible news.I can only imagine it was some sort of heart attack or sudden brain aneurysm.Very sad.I lost a very good friend to a aneurysm just a few years ago.

We'll take Toes if he still needs a home. _________________ Y.M.H.S.,

I remember seeing her at Manskers a few years back.Just past her briefly. In character,,I think she was being thrown out of one of the booths with the merchant also in character.I remember some of the folks in the crowd were kind of shocked and actually wispered,,did you just see that bumb get kicked out? They got a good chuckle when they realized or were told it was just part of the show.
It says she died of a apparent Heart Attack,,, She went quick and probably didn't suffer much.Thank the lord for that.
I had a real fear when reading this this morning that she was packing for TI and that maybe she left the car running inside a garage with the AC on.Glad to hear it was not that. Its bad enough to lose someone that you care for from natural causes. Its even worse when its a accidental death.
RIP. _________________

I, too, will be leaving around 6am to head to Martinsville. As with Nathan's idea, anyone wishing to carpool may contact me via PM or mobile # 765.977.2283. I'm in Richmond, IN (on the Ohio line) and will be headed straight out on I-70.
Best,
Jennifer

I now have a full car. Thanks folks! |
