Sloans Valley Cave: Bat Data Collection Monitors In Place.

Clarifications from James W Bennett 2005.12.05
Goochland Cave is open during the summer. You don't have to get a key from Winchester, it is open. In fact is open from 1 May until 1 September. No key is necessary.

There are no plans to gate anything in the Sloans Vally, Minton Hollow area. If, in years ahead, any thoughts of additional gates are developed, the cave community along with the general public will be notified regarding the proposals. It is required by the NEPA law. It is
also part of a partnership between the land managers and the public which
has an interest in the resource.

Clarifications from Jim Kennedy 2005.12.05
The outcome of our saltpeter cave investigation is to determine caves that once had large numbers of hibernating bats but no longer do so. It is NOT to gate caves. That just causes hard feelings for no reason. So far we
have been getting incredible cooperation from a lot of Kentucky cavers. Bill Walden, Lee Florea, Randy Paylor, Pat Erisman, Bill Carr, and others have all been extremely helpful in providing maps, locations, and hints on other caves to check. These individuals truly care about the caves.
