OVR-CAVE FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
This is a FAQ for the OVR-CAVE@LSV.UKY.EDU Mailing List.
Q. What is the OVR?
A. The OVR is an NSS "region" and stands for the Ohio (River) Valley Region.
Specifically Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.
Q. What is the NSS?
A. The NSS is the National Speleological Society. A local chapter of the NSS
is usually
called a "grotto". Visit www.caves.org for more information.
Q. What is the OVR-CAVE listserv used for?
A. The purpose of the listserv is to facilitate email communication among
cavers about cave related happenings in Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio. Post
information that is of general interest to the cavers in this area. Never use
this as a forum to attack another caver or to post rumors. Do use this list to
communicate happenings in your grotto.
Q. How do I send something to the OVR-CAVE listserv?
A. Address your email to OVR-CAVE@LSV.UKY.EDU Keep in mind that everything you
send to this address will be sent to all on the list.
Q. Will I get information about specific cave locations?
A. No. It is not acceptable to post specific cave locations or directions to
caves. It is generally acceptable to give the county and state for a
particular cave. For example; Sloan's Valley Cave System in Pulaski, KY.
Obvious, but cautious, exceptions to this rule could be for cave clean up
projects or for cave rescue notification.
Q. Do I need to live in or cave in Kentucky, Indiana or Ohio to be on the
list?
A. No. But, the information posted here should be of interest to the cavers in
Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.
Q. Do I have to send something to this list?
A. No. You can remain a subscriber and receive all the postings. You are not
obligated to send anything. Please pass along any relevant information to your
local grotto.
Q: How do I subscribe or unsubscribe to the list?
A. Send mail to LISTSERV@LSV.UKY.EDU from the appropriate account. In the body
of the message write:
SUBscribe OVR-CAVE
visits since 10/15/98!
